Doula Services

"Spring Thaw" by Leah Piken Kolidas

I provide labor support to women and families in Northern New Jersey.  Every family and every birth is different, and we will work together to create the support system that works best for you and your family’s changing needs.

What does a doula do?

Every family that I support receives:

  • 2-3 prenatal sessions at your home to get to know one another, to address any questions or concerns, and try a few comfort measures in a relaxed setting
  • comfortable inclusion of your birth partner/spouse as essential, loving birth support
  • assistance and guidance in researching the best evidence-based information available to make your birth choices
  • support crafting a birth plan that’s based upon best evidence and your preferences
  • continuous access to my lending library of books, CDs and DVDs
  • resources to support your self-care, stress reduction and prenatal relaxation practices: birth balls, sacred Tibetan singing bowls, rebozos, rice socks, meditations and visualizations, essential oils, therapeutic touch, and more
  • referrals to local birth resources in our community
  • continuous phone and email support
  • on-call availability 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your due date
  • continuous labor support from active labor through a few hours postpartum. I’ll stay with you the entire time no matter where, how, or when you give birth.
  • photos and video of your birth, if you’d like
  • 1 meal prepared for your family with love and in mindfulness of ideal prenatal/postnatal nutrition, either before or after your baby’s birth
  • 1 postnatal session in your home to address any questions, support breastfeeding or bottle feeding and bring closure to our working relationship
  • arrangements and introductions to your backup doula in case of emergencies
